Mindset Must Be Learned

In October 2012, I received a devastating diagnosis—stage four metastatic melanoma that had spread to my lungs.  Like many others facing such news, I asked, "Why me? Why now?" I know firsthand the fear that comes with such a diagnosis.

I've always wanted more than just the absence of cancer. I yearned for a richer, more meaningful life.  The challenges of illness can be an opportunity to heal in unexpected ways and lead to a higher quality of life. I call this "disproving the fallacy"—the fallacy being that simply getting rid of the disease is enough.

Important Tips

Lifestyle Choice

Lifestyle Choice

Lifestyle Choice

My aim is to provide patient advocacy to people with unmet needs with answers quickly.

  • I look to people whom I admire and scribble down those things they do that I could incorporate in my life each day.

Favorite Foods

Lifestyle Choice

Forget about killing old eating habits, create new ones that support the new you.

  • Enjoying good food is not only a great contributor to better overall well being, but it can also reverse habits of eating poorly.

Heart Healthy

Lifestyle Choice

Heart Healthy

A happy heart needs love, support, sleep, exercise, and a good diet.

  • During cancer therapy, your heart gets asked to do much of the heavy lifting. One way I keep 'healthy' is doing push-ups.

Best Medicine

Heart Healthy

Separate but apart means doing things together that for a stronger you.

  • Running your race never got easier than stationary aerobic exercise in a swimming pool. Three days a week is perfect.

Pain Management

Pain is usually referred, locate something out of balance and chances are you are on the right path.

  • I am all about pain: remember, no pain, no gain? Early pain management is key to a better quality of life and mood levels.

Stay in Your Lane

Run your own race. Cancer knows no bounds and rarely stays in its lane. Stay in front is my advice.

  • Staying in your lane sounds punitive when realistically it is liberating. You be the judge and run your race, forget what others say.

I'm not a doctor—just a fortunate guy who has survived three different cancers. I'm a Christian, saved by grace and alive today largely because of God's mercy.
